For more than three decades, Boynton Billiards has helped South Florida families, businesses, designers, and entertainment enthusiasts create memorable game rooms. What began as a small pool room in Boynton Beach has grown into a respected billiards and game-room company known for premium pool tables, professional service, American-made products, and personalized design assistance.
The history of Boynton Billiards is a story of family, growth, perseverance, and a lasting passion for the game of pool.
The Boynton Billiards Story Began in 1991
Boynton Billiards was founded in January 1991 when John and Debbie Corvey purchased a local pool room in a Boynton Beach shopping plaza. The original business had seven pool tables, but it did not remain small for long.
By the summer of 1991, the Corveys expanded into the neighboring space and hosted their first APA Nationals Qualifier. This early expansion demonstrated the company’s commitment to supporting the local billiards community while creating a welcoming place for competitive and recreational players. (Boynton Billiards)
The business was already becoming more than a neighborhood pool room. It was developing into a destination where players could compete, socialize, improve their skills, and share their enthusiasm for billiards.
Moving to South Federal Highway
In November 1992, the Corvey family purchased the property at 1950 South Federal Highway in Boynton Beach, which remains an important location in the company’s history. Renovations began late that year in preparation for a much larger operation. (Boynton Billiards)
The original pool room moved into the Federal Highway property in February 1993. The expanded location included 18 pool tables and a 40-seat bar, creating a much larger entertainment environment for the South Florida community. (Boynton Billiards)
This move represented a major milestone. Boynton Billiards was no longer simply operating a small pool room. The company now had the space and visibility needed to develop a broader billiards business.
Opening the First Billiard Showroom
In early 1994, Boynton Billiards opened a 1,300-square-foot billiard showroom within the Federal Highway building. This expansion allowed the company to help customers purchase pool tables and create their own entertainment spaces at home. (Boynton Billiards)
The showroom marked the beginning of the Boynton Billiards experience customers recognize today. Instead of only offering a place to play pool, the company could now assist homeowners with selecting tables, accessories, furniture, lighting, and other game-room products.
The showroom also gave customers the ability to view products in person, compare styles, and receive guidance from billiards professionals before making an investment.
In late 1995, Michael Ruback joined Boynton Billiards as Director of Sales. Although he left in 1997 to pursue other opportunities, he would later return to the company and become an important part of its leadership and sales operations. (Boynton Billiards)
Expanding into Boca Raton and West Palm Beach
Boynton Billiards continued growing as its reputation spread throughout Palm Beach County.
In January 2000, Town Center at Boca Raton invited the company to open a temporary retail store inside the mall. The store opened in March of that year. Later in 2000, the original pool room at the Boynton Beach property was closed and remodeled into the showroom customers recognize today. (Boynton Billiards)
After the Town Center location closed in February 2001, Boynton Billiards opened a West Palm Beach store the following month. This location allowed the company to serve an even larger portion of Palm Beach County and provide more customers with access to pool tables, game-room furniture, billiards supplies, and professional guidance. (Boynton Billiards)
Town Center at Boca Raton invited the company to return in 2004, resulting in a second temporary mall location that opened in November. That store remained open until March 2006. (Boynton Billiards)
Recognition Within the Billiards Industry
As Boynton Billiards expanded, the company also earned recognition from leading names within the billiards industry.
In 2003, Boynton Billiards was named Dealer of the Year for Peter Vitalie Pool Tables. The company has also been recognized as an Olhausen Billiards Top 20 Dealer and identifies itself as a member of the Billiard Congress of America. (Boynton Billiards)
These honors reflect the company’s focus on product quality, industry knowledge, customer service, and professional game-room planning.
Boynton Billiards does more than sell tables. Its team helps customers consider room dimensions, playing clearance, furniture placement, cloth colors, table finishes, lighting, décor, and the overall look of the entertainment space.
Continuing Through Personal Loss
The Boynton Billiards story also includes difficult personal moments.
In July 2006, the family lost John Corvey Sr. to lung cancer. Despite this loss, Debbie Corvey and the Boynton Billiards team continued building the family business and serving its customers. (Boynton Billiards)
That perseverance became part of the company’s legacy. Boynton Billiards continued moving forward while preserving the values, customer relationships, and commitment to quality established during its early years.
In 2011, Debbie, Larry, and John Jr. decided to relocate the West Palm Beach store. The new West Palm Beach showroom opened in 2012, beginning another chapter in the company’s regional growth. (Boynton Billiards)
Experienced Leadership and Game-Room Design
Michael Ruback rejoined Boynton Billiards in 2014 after nearly 17 years away. He currently serves as Director of Sales and Vice President, working with homeowners, architects, designers, builders, and multi-unit residential properties. His industry experience helps customers identify products that meet their design, performance, and space-planning needs. (Boynton Billiards)
Founder and CEO Debbie Corvey has designed game rooms throughout the country and has advised billiards manufacturers regarding styles and industry trends. Her emphasis on quality furniture and decorator-inspired styling has helped establish Boynton Billiards as a resource for customized entertainment spaces. (Boynton Billiards)
Managing Partner Larry Wood contributes experience in business, marketing, billiard cues, commercial game-room design, residential planning, and product development. (Boynton Billiards)
Together, the leadership team combines billiards expertise with customer service, design knowledge, and decades of practical experience.
Investing in American-Made Products and Online Shopping
In 2016, Boynton Billiards remodeled both showrooms and introduced new products promoted as being made in the United States. (Boynton Billiards)
The company entered a new stage of growth in 2018 by expanding its online presence. Customers could explore luxury pool tables and accessories online while still receiving the personalized assistance associated with a local showroom. (Boynton Billiards)
This combination of online convenience and in-person expertise allows customers to begin researching products from home and then speak with experienced professionals about measurements, styles, delivery, installation, and customization.
A Commitment to Quality and Customer Satisfaction
Boynton Billiards promises to remain involved throughout the customer’s project, providing design and layout guidance while helping create a game room that reflects the customer’s lifestyle, interests, and personal taste.
The company’s stated values include attention to detail, exclusive products, quality service, competitive pricing, flexible scheduling, personalized assistance, and building long-term relationships based on trust. (Boynton Billiards)
